ABOUT
Contemporary vocal trailblazer Julia Anne Cordani “creates an intense crossfire” in the artistic world (Frank Housh). Passionate about the performance of contemporary repertoire, her work gravitates towards experimental sonic portraits of women on the margins of theology and spirituality. Seeking to mediate the ancient voice through modern technology, her sonic practice explores themes of temporality, mysticism, power, and transformation.
Julia is a vocal artist and scholar from Lewiston, New York who holds bachelor’s degrees from the University at Buffalo in Voice Performance and Linguistics and master’s degrees from UB in Voice Performance and Choral Conducting. She has studied voice with Dr. James Harrington and Dr. Tiffany Du Mouchelle, and taken masterclasses with Hila Plittman, Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen, William Sharp, Lisa Vroman, and Julia Bullock. She is currently pursuing a doctorate (DMA) in contemporary voice performance at the University of California, San Diego under the tutelage of Grammy Award-winning contemporary vocalist Susan Narucki.

She has also appeared on television in scenes of Carmen as Frasquita and Faust as Marguerite for the 2020 and 2021 WNED Buffalo Toronto On Stage with Buffalo Opera Unlimited series. Julia most recently sang as Hera in Christopher Cerrone’s All Wounds Bleed, the second soprano soloist in Karin Rehnqvist’s Puksanger-Lockdrop, and, to critical acclaim, the title character in Peter Maxwell Davies’ The Medium, with award-winning new opera collective Kallisti. On the operatic stage in 2026-27, Julia will premiere the roles of Second Twin in Jonny Stallings’ The Art of Something Halfway Like Flying and Rey in Emily Barger’s Dolly and the Disappearing Dream Rock.
